CHITRAL: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan on Monday visited Chitral and announced Rs1 billion – Rs500 million for each of the two districts – for the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged in the recent floods.
He made the announcement during his visit to Shishi Koh in Lower Chitral and Brep in Upper Chitral where he met the affected people.
The chief minister also announced an amount of Rs400,000 as a compensation for each totally damaged house and Rs160,000 for each partially damaged house.
He told a gathering of people in Brep that the government would ensure all-out support for the reconstruction activities in the flood-hit areas, adding more funds had been approved for the purpose.
He said the demands presented by the locals would also be met, and funds would be released for ongoing schemes in the area.
The chief minister clarified the recent floods had wreaked havoc on the lives of people in most parts of KP. Damages to infrastructure accompanied with loss of lives has proven to be a colossal catastrophe. The government would spend more funds on reconstruction of infrastructure.
He reiterated that saving the lives of people was the primary focus in all relief and rescue operations which will be followed by a detailed assessment of all the damages in order to enable the government to carry out rehabilitation efforts effectively.
Speaking at Shishi Koh valley of Lower Chitral, the chief minister announced a package worth Rs500 million each for Upper and Lower Chitral under the District Development Plan, adding the provincial government will undertake a detailed assessment of the damages to crops and homes after which funds will be released accordingly.
He reiterated that the provincial government had two helicopters at its disposal which were not fit for relief activities. He however added that one of the larger aircraft was modified recently to participate in relief and rescue operations in the flood hit areas.

PTI leaders and govt all are expert in befooling public and for over nine years they have done nothing for Chitral and done step motherly treatment with us. Dont expect any thing good from these liars.
Communities should put in place a system to cope with disasters and natural calamities as govt has no resources to overcome its impact in shape of reconstruction of houses, roads, bridges or sheltering homeless people.
This flood catastraphe is not limited to one area it has wreaked havoc with human life, properties and infrastructure across the country. We should promote unity among ourselves for pre as well as post calamities bcoz these floods have become frequent and there is no quick fixes for it.
thanks
