PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a scheme to provide free electric scooters to female students and working women, with the initiative initially targeting women in Peshawar.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who directed the relevant authorities to take immediate steps to implement the scooter distribution programme.
Officials briefed the chief minister that female students and working women in Peshawar would receive the scooters in the first phase, while the scheme would subsequently be expanded to other districts of the province.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said electric scooters would provide women with safer and easier access to educational institutions and workplaces while also helping reduce air pollution.
He said the free electric scooter initiative would promote women’s economic empowerment by facilitating their mobility and improving access to education and employment opportunities.
