Chitral, June 4, 2026: The district administration Lower Chitral on Thursday hosted a reception to honour the participants of the recently concluded Pakistan Solidarity Expedition to Terich Mir via Susoom Karimabad.
The event recognized their contribution to promoting mountaineering, adventure tourism, and snow sports in the Hindukush region.
Terichmir base camp treks begin
The expedition was sponsored by Zom Connection, supported by the district administration, and organized in collaboration with the Hindukush Snow Sports Club Chitral.
The mission was led by renowned French mountain guide Julian Herry from Chamonix, France, and comprised a team of 16 mountaineers, guides, and outdoor sports enthusiasts.
Schedule for Terichmir base camp trek unveiled
The expedition team remained stationed at Terich Mir Base Camp in Karimabad from May 19 to June 4, 2026. The primary objectives of the mission included training local athletes in modern mountaineering techniques, exploring an alternative route to Terich Mir through Karimabad, and assessing the area’s potential for adventure tourism and snow sports development.
During the expedition, team members successfully climbed several minor peaks within the Terich Mir massif and conducted exploration and survey work on surrounding mountain passes.

The exercise generated valuable information regarding access routes, terrain conditions, and future opportunities for mountaineering, skiing, and sustainable tourism development in the region.
A significant outcome of the expedition was the identification of terrain suitable for summer skiing and snow sports activities. International participants expressed admiration for Chitral’s breathtaking natural beauty and highlighted the immense untapped tourism potential of the Hindukush Mountains.
The foreign climbers also announced plans to return in the coming years to attempt the summit of Terich Mir (7,708 metres), Pakistan’s highest peak outside the Karakoram range. They further pledged to promote Chitral internationally by publishing photographs, videos, and documentary material from the expedition through global platforms and social media channels.
Deputy Commissioner Lower Chitral Rao Hashim Azim congratulated the expedition team on the successful completion of their mission and reaffirmed the district administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at showcasing Chitral’s tourism and adventure sports potential.
President of the Hindukush Snow Sports Club Shahzada Hasham-ul-Mulk thanked the district administration, Zom Connection, local communitie and all partner organizations for their support in making the expedition a success.
He noted that the club has been actively promoting snow sports, mountain tourism, and youth participation in adventure activities since 2018 through collaboration with national and international partners.
“This expedition marks another important milestone in our efforts to establish Chitral as a leading destination for mountain tourism and snow sports,” he said.
“The knowledge gained and international exposure generated through this initiative will contribute to the sustainable growth of tourism in the region and create new economic opportunities for local communities.”
Participants at the event appreciated the expedition’s achievements and stressed the importance of collaborative efforts in promoting sustainable tourism, environmental awareness, and community-based economic development.
