RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir on Wednesday said that the state is responsible for protecting the nation against the ‘Fitna’ of social media.

In his address to the youth of Pakistan, the army chief said that social media was being used by some elements against the interests of Pakistan. He said these elements had made a narrative that Pakistan was near default on his commitment to repay loans to international lenders. Now where are these elements who were making this propaganda to create disappointment among the nation.

He said that the future of Pakistan was bright and the future of Pakistan was in safe hands. He said a strong and deep-rooted relationship between the state and the people was the guarantee for the future of the country.

General Asim said that in order to ascertain the importance of an independent state one should look at countries such as Libya, Iraq Afghanistan and Kashmir.

As Muslims we consider despondence as a sin. Our main asset are the youth who should play their role in the development of the country, he added.

Gen Asim said he was hopeful that Allah would grant victory to the army in the war against terrorists. For the last over 22 years, the people of Khyber Pakthunkhwa have stood by the army in the fight, he said, adding tribesmen should resolve their own issues through dialogue.
