Talking to newsmen during a visit to the Lowari Tunnel site on Sunday, he said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had directed to complete the tunnel in March instead of December next year. Amir Muqam said the project would bring a revolution in the life of the people of Chitral. The tunnel will also facilitate the transportation of local products to markets across Pakistan and abroad thereby improving the economic conditions of the people and the area. The 27- billion rupees project consists of two tunnels of eight point six and one point nine kilometers and four bridges. Amir Muqam said the government was also constructing Chitral-Gilgit Road, which will promote tourism in this part of the country. He said the government was also working on feasibility of linking Chitral with Central Asian Republics via Afghanistan.]]>
If the tunnel is not going to be completed by December this year despite being repeatedly announced by PM Nawaz Sharif and the dead line has shifted yet again, Amir Muqam sahib should at least ensure that Chitralis are not treated in a disgraceful manner again during these winters when they would be forced to travel through the tunnel.
