ISLAMABAD: While many areas in KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir were reeling under the devastation of floods, an alert has been issued about more cloudburts.
In an interview, NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider warned that more cloudbursts may hit Pakistan in the coming weeks. He said northern Punjab, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan are at high risk over the next three to four weeks. The situation could mirror recent disasters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Northern areas of Pakistan are facing heavy rainfall. The ground is saturated. Rivers and streams are rising. Authorities are monitoring hill slopes for landslides. Residents in vulnerable areas have been told to move to safer locations. Emergency teams are ready with evacuation plans and relief measures. Flash floods and road blockages remain likely.
Current Situation in KP
Recent rains, floods, landslides, and lightning strikes have killed 328 people in KP. Dozens more are injured.
A few weeks ago, Gilgit-Baltistan faced a cloudburst. Severe rainfall caused floods and landslides, killing multiple people.
The residents in the affected areas have been asked to stay alert and follow safety instructions.
