There were complaints that some of the vendors and grocery shop owners had created an artificial shortage of different commodities of daily use, especially tomatoes etc, before Eidul Fitr. Complaints were also received that the sellers had hoarded the kitchen items and started selling them at rates much above the officially fixed prices after Eid. On Sunday morning, Tehsildar Ilyas Ahmed and other officials raided different shops and fined the shopkeepers. They also closed two vegetable shops and warned that strict action would be taken against those selling basic commodities at higher rates. The tehsildar told ChitralToday that the vendors were selling tomatoes at Rs120 to Rs130 per kg against the routine rate of Rs60 to Rs70. He said those fleecing the citizens would not be spared and the drive would continue against the hoarders and those found violating the official price list.]]>
