PHC seeks details of taxes levied on passengers on PIA Chitral route

CHITRAL: Peshawar High Court (PHC) has directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to submit a report about taxes being levied on passengers on the Chitral-Peshawar and Chitral-Islamabad routes.
A bench of the PHC, comprising Justice Ikram Ullah and Justice Musarrat Hilali issued the direction while hearing a petition filed against the PIA chairman regarding exorbitant fares being charged by the national flag-carriers from passengers on the routes.
The plea was filed by Aminul Hassan Chitrali through his counsel Mumtaz Ahmed Advocate.
The petition requested the court to issue directions to the PIA to fix the fares at Rs4,000 per passenger.
But a representative of the PIA informed the court that it was not possible. he said the actual fare fixed by the PIA on the routes was Rs2,100 per passenger and the remaining amount was charged on accounts of different taxes levied by the government.
The court then issued the direction to the FBR and put off further hearing of the matter.
It may be noted that the PIA is planning to suspend the Peshawar-Chitral flights due to losses.
