CHITRAL: Lower Chitral Police have continued an indiscriminate crackdown against drug dealers across the district under the “No to Drugs” campaign, following special directives from District Police Officer Resham Jahangir.
According to the district police, 91 suspects have been arrested since DPO Resham Jahangir assumed charge as part of intensified efforts to make Lower Chitral free of drugs and ice.
Police said the crackdown has resulted in the seizure of 43.858 kilograms of hashish, 170.5 litres of alcohol, 2.930 kilograms of ice, 1.205 kilograms of opium and 0.142 kilograms of heroin.
Seven individuals involved in drug-related activities have also repented and pledged to abandon the illegal trade and substance abuse, according to the police.
DPO Resham Jahangir said there would be no leniency for those involved in drug trafficking. He added that the process of freezing the assets of drug dealers has also been initiated, with correspondence underway with the relevant authorities.
The DPO said indiscriminate action against elements involved in the illegal drug trade would continue across Lower Chitral.
The district police appealed to citizens to immediately share information about drug dealers with law enforcement authorities to help establish a drug-free, peaceful and secure Lower Chitral.
The police said public cooperation was essential to achieving the campaign’s objective of eliminating drugs from the district.
