Equal Property Rights for Wives Un-Islamic: Fazal

Staff Writer

Islamabad, March 30, 2026: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has declared the proposal to grant wives an equal share in property after marriage as “un-Islamic.”

He asserted that neither Shariah nor the existing legal framework allows such a measure.

Speaking to the media outside Parliament, Fazlur Rehman said that the concept of equal property distribution between spouses contradicts Islamic principles and does not have any basis in Pakistani law. He warned that implementing such a policy would go against religious teachings and legal norms.

In the same briefing, Fazlur Rehman also addressed the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, describing the Iran-Israel conflict as a continuation of the longstanding Palestine-Israel dispute.

He cautioned that a defeat for Iran could lead to unchecked Zionist dominance across the region, with serious implications for neighboring countries.

Regarding Pakistan’s role in promoting peace in the region, Fazlur Rehman stated that the country has taken significant steps by facilitating diplomatic engagement and hosting foreign ministers from key regional powers, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. He added that Pakistan’s efforts in this regard reflect the nation’s commitment to regional stability.

The JUI chief urged the Islamic world to present a united front, advocating for collective action across political, economic, and defense sectors.

He stressed that a coordinated approach among Islamic countries is essential to counter external pressures, prevent regional instability, and curb the expansionist ambitions of Zionist and Israeli forces.
