Generators given by PPP leader stop working

The residents of Booni at a meeting on Saturday expressed their dismay and through a resolution appealed to the PPP leader to investigate why faulty and tampered with generators had been provided to them on his directions. It may be recalled that Khursheed Shah visited Booni after the 2015 floods washed away the powerhouse at Reshun, which was the only source of electricity to most parts of upper Chitral, including Booni. On the appeal of the residents of Booni, Mr Shah announced to provide three generators to meet the requirements of the town till the reconstruction of the Reshun powerhouse. Each generator was of 350kv and would provide 700 kv electricity to Booni which has about 500kv requirements. The generators were made operational on Ramazan 1 this year but after only a month two of them stopped working. As a result, almost the whole town is without power. Some of the participants of the meeting said essential parts of the generators were not genuine and had been replaced before providing them to Booni. This could have been done by the middle men or the officials of the PPP at the provincial level played foul while purchasing the generators. Others said that the generators were not new and had been painted to give them a new look. But a resident of Booni on the condition of anonymity said that government officials who were working in the Reshun powerhouse did not understand to operate the computerized generators and damaged them. He said the generators were geuine and made by the PEL company and technicians from the company were expected to arrive in Booni on Monday to find out the fault and tell the local technicians how to operate them.
