Booni, April 18, 2026: The district administration of Upper Chitral has directed traders and shopkeepers to strictly adhere to the officially notified market closing time of 8 PM as part of ongoing smart lockdown.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Imran Khan during a late-night inspection of Booni Bazar said that all commercial activities must cease after the stipulated time, while only essential services will be permitted to remain operational for public convenience.

He instructed traders to ensure compliance with government regulations, including switching off unnecessary lights after business hours and cooperating fully with the district administration’s directives.

The administration reiterated that strict implementation of closing timings is essential to ensure effective enforcement of the smart lockdown and to maintain public order across the district.

Impact of US-Iran war

It may be mentioned here that similar market closure timings are being enforced in different parts of Pakistan as part of broader energy conservation efforts.

These measures were introduced amid a fuel and energy crisis triggered by rising global oil prices and supply disruptions linked to the ongoing US–Iran war that erupted on February 28.

Under the policy, markets and commercial centers are generally required to shut by 8:00 PM, with limited relaxations in some areas for essential and time-sensitive services.

The decision aims to reduce electricity consumption and ease pressure on the country’s fuel-dependent power generation system.
