Chitral Bazar

New Market Timings and Restrictions Imposed

Staff Correspondent

Booni, April 7, 2026: The district administration has implemented the new business hours and restrictions in line with directives issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, effective from April 6, 2026.

The new market closing timings and restrictions have also been implemented in Lower Chitral as part of the government strategy to conserve energy in the wake of the ongoing US-Iran war that has disrupted oil shipment transportation through the Strait of Hormuz near Iran.

Under the new orders, all shops and business centers will close by 8pm, while medical stores may remain open until 9pm. Restaurants and cafes will be allowed to operate until 10pm, with only home delivery permitted thereafter.
Wedding halls and event markets will also be required to conclude activities by 10pm.

The administration has imposed a complete ban on unnecessary lighting, including floodlights and decorative lights. Billboards and LED screens must be turned off after business hours, and the unnecessary use of generators for commercial activities has also been restricted.

However, hospitals, pharmacies, petrol pumps, and traditional bakeries (tandoors) are exempt from these restrictions.

Deputy Commissioner Upper Chitral Muhammad Imran Khan has directed all relevant officials, including assistant commissioners and police authorities, to ensure strict implementation of the orders. Legal action will be taken against violators.
