PESHAWAR, Feb 24: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday sentenced a lawyer to six months’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs100,000 for using abusive language against a female judge inside a courtroom in Swat.
According to a short order issued by the high court, complaints were received by the registrar against lawyer Asadullah following an incident in which he allegedly used inappropriate remarks against Civil Judge Fauzia Naseem during court proceedings.
The court converted the complaint into a contempt of court petition and initiated formal proceedings under the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2004. A notice was issued to the lawyer, and after completion of the hearing, the court found the charges proven.
In its brief order, the bench awarded six months’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs100,000. The court ruled that the conduct amounted to contempt and undermined the dignity of the judiciary.
