Omar Hayat admits to premeditated murder of 17-year-old social media influencer, says he acted out of suspicion and personal betrayal.
ISLAMABAD: The alleged murderer of teenage TikToker Sana Yousaf has made a chilling confession before a magistrate, admitting to the crime and claiming he acted out of suspicion and perceived betrayal.
Omar Hayat, the primary suspect in the case, recorded his statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). In his testimony, he laid out the motive, method, escape strategy, and the location where he disposed of the murder weapon.
Hayat, the son of a retired government official and a TikToker himself, said he had become acquainted with 17-year-old Sana through the social media platform. Their interaction, according to him, developed into a one-sided obsession.
He stated that he traveled from his hometown, Jaranwala, to Islamabad on May 28, 2025, to wish Sana on her birthday. When she failed to meet him, Hayat returned home feeling dejected and suspicious that she was intentionally avoiding him—possibly because she was involved with someone else.
According to his confession, the two had planned to meet again on June 2. That day, Hayat rented a Toyota Fortuner and carried a 30-bore pistol, claiming he intended to kill her if she refused to see him.
After repeated unanswered calls, Hayat drove to her residence in Islamabad’s G-13 sector and waited nearby. When he still received no response, he forcibly entered the house and fatally shot Sana in front of her mother and maternal aunt.
He then took Sana’s mobile phone and fled the scene in an attempt to destroy evidence of their communication. Hayat told police he instructed the driver to speed away and later stopped near a railway bridge, where he hid the pistol. He was dropped off near the Chungi No. 26 bus stop, from where he boarded transport back to Jaranwala.
In his confession, Hayat expressed remorse, saying he was ashamed of killing an innocent teenage girl. He emphasized that he was confessing voluntarily, without coercion or pressure, as an act of repentance.
“I feel deeply ashamed for committing such a cruel act,” he reportedly told the magistrate when asked why he had chosen to confess.
The investigating officer confirmed that Hayat had been given time to reflect before recording his statement and was clearly informed that it would be used as evidence against him. After an hour, he reaffirmed his decision to proceed.
Sana Yousaf, a well-known social media influencer, was shot dead at her home on June 2. At the time of the attack, her aunt was present while her parents were away.
Islamabad Police arrested Hayat within 20 hours of the incident during a raid in Faisalabad. Officers recovered both the murder weapon and the victim’s mobile phone from his possession.
Investigators believe the phone was taken to destroy digital evidence. Police said more than 11 raids were conducted across three cities to track Hayat. Although limited leads initially hampered the investigation, geo-fencing and CCTV footage helped map his escape route, from the G-13 sector to Chungi No. 26, where he boarded a passenger vehicle to Jaranwala.
