Labor Day observed in Chitral

CHITRAL: A rally was organized by the district administration of Lower Chitral in connection with International Labor Day (May 1, 2025).

The rally was led by Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Aftab Munir and participated in by district administration officials, representatives of various line departments, TMA officers, and individuals from other sectors.

The rally passed through various streets of Chitral city and concluded at the Town Hall, where participants expressed solidarity with workers’ rights and chanted slogans for national unity and development.

Following the rally, a formal ceremony was held at the Town Hall where the significance of Labor Day was highlighted. A cake-cutting ceremony was held, tributes were paid to hardworking laborers, and appreciation certificates were distributed among TMA staff.\"Labor

Upper Chitral

The Labor Day was also observed by the district administration of Upper Chitral.

In this regard, a ceremony and a  awareness walk were held in Booni. The events was attended by administrative officers, elected representatives, officials from public and private sectors, members of the business community, and local citizens.

Zulfiqar Ali Yaftali (ADEO Sports) served as the event moderator.

Speaking on the occasion, President of Labour Wing of PML-N Upper Chitral Afsar Alim highlighted the challenges faced by laborers, especially low wages in private institutions. He emphasized the need for the enforcement of the government-mandated minimum wage of Rs37,000.

Tehsil Chairman of Mulkhow-Torkhow Mir Jamsheduddin assured that workers\’ issues would be addressed in consultation with the district administration.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muazzam Khan Bangash, in his presidential address, paid tribute to the struggle of the Chicago workers of 1886 and said the day serves as a reminder to renew our commitment to their cause. He promised that a special meeting would be held to find practical solutions to wage-related issues.

The event concluded with a collective prayer led by Maulana Abdul Ghani Chaman followed by a solidarity walk.
