RESHUN: The residents of Reshun in Upper Chitral have begun building a protective embankment along the Yarkhun River to safeguard their properties from erosion.
Their efforts underscore their resilience and the failure of government bodies to address climate change disasters effectively.
Men, women, elderly citizens, and even children have joined the effort, picking up shovels and stones to help construct the embankment. Viral photos and videos on social media show women working side by side with men.
The community repeatedly reached out to the Upper Chitral administration, Deputy Speaker Suraiya Bibi, the MNA, and other authorities, but none took meaningful action.
Frustrated by empty promises, political statements, and staged photo ops, the people have decided to take matters into their own hands.
River erosion has washed away a good part of Reshun village during the last a few years and the government has failed to save the residents from being homeless.
