PESHAWAR: The Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) held a key meeting with UNICEF to discuss major reforms as part of the upcoming Multi-Year Work Plan (2025–27) under the Learning and Skills Programme.
Chaired by Secretary education Masood Ahmed, the meeting focused on aligning the new plan with provincial education policies, especially the foundational learning policy. The secretary proposed several important reforms to improve the quality of education in the province, says a press release.
These proposals included structured teacher certification to improve teaching standards, categorization of schools as A, B, C for better management, a legal framework for school licensing, restructuring education management cadres and professional development of teachers.
UNICEF assured full support for these reforms and agreed to include them in the upcoming Education Sector Plan (2025–30). Both sides agreed to continue working closely to finalize the plan by mid-May.
