Facilities pledged for civilians during Shandur festival
BOONI: A group of district administration, Chitral Scouts officials and local representatives visited Shandur to review arrangements for the annual polo festival to be held there in July this year.
After public criticism of the VIP culture during the three-day festival at Shandur every year and hardship faced by visitors, this year the government departments have decided to facilitate the civilians as well.
In a statement, the office of the deputy commissioner Upper Chitral on Tuesday said: “It was decided that every possible effort would be made to provide special facilities to civilian spectators. It was also decided that the police camping site at Shandur will be reserved for the stay of spectators.”
The statement added that special care would be taken of the culture and traditions of the local people people while holding the festival.
Moreover, there would be a complete ban on painting or advertising on mountains near the venue of the festival and in this regard the deputy commissioner would soon impose Section 144.
