BOONI: A meeting on the waiver of outstanding PESCO electricity dues and payment of raised bills by consumers in Reshun was held here today.
The meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Upper Chitral Moazam Khan Bangash was attended by Assistant Resident Engineer PESCO Reshun, members of the Power Committee and local leaders and members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The meeting was convened following provincial government directives regarding the waiver of electricity arrears of PESCO consumers in Reshun up to June 30, 2026, and ensuring payment of bills according to the prevailing tariff from July 1, 2026.
Power Committee members were also asked to provide written assurance in this regard. The people of Reshun and nearby areas have been staging protests against inflated power bills.
The district administration officials briefed participants on the efforts of KP Assembly Deputy Speaker Suraya Bibi to secure a waiver of the outstanding electricity dues.
Power Committee members said they would consult their general body before communicating their final position to the district administration and requested two days to complete the consultation.
The committee members said they were currently unable to provide written assurance because a case concerning the applicable tariff was still under consideration. They also raised concerns about which tariff would apply if bills were paid after July 1, 2026.
The district administration officials assured the committee members that the government was taking the issue of outstanding electricity dues seriously and that necessary measures were being taken in accordance with its commitment.
The Power Committee was directed to complete consultations with its general body within two days and submit its final response to the district administration.
The participants said the issue should be resolved through consultation, mutual understanding and constructive engagement, with all stakeholders playing their role in reaching a mutually acceptable solution.
