JI demands action against flour mafia in Chitral

CHITRAL: The government should take action against the flour mafia which is involved in creating shortage of wheat in connivance with the district administration that may result a serious food crisis in Chitral.

Speaking at a press conference, Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Lower Chitral chief Molana Jamshed Ahmed said due to the negligence of the government the mafia was depriving the people of Chitral of the subsidized wheat made available at the godowns and sale points in the most backward district of the province.

Molana Jamshed alleged that the millers were supplying flour to the consumers after separating the fine ata. This he said was unfit for human consumption.

He demanded that at least 50 percent of the subsidized wheat being provided by the government should be made available at godowns and sale points in union councils for the consumers and the remaining 50pc may be provided to the flour mills.

Moreover, he said, the district administration should stop smuggling of the flour from mills out of Chitral. He said if the government failed to resolve the issues the masses would be compelled to take to the streets.—Bashir Hussain Azad
