German couple on world cycle tour reaches Chitral

CHITRAL: A German couple on cycle tour of the world has arrived in Chitral and intend to cross over to Gilgit-Baltistan through the Shandur pass. 

Talking to ChitralToday correspondent here, Mr Patte and Ms Diana, both aged 39 years, said that they set out on the tour 20 months ago from Germany and after cycling through Czeck Republic, Italy, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Iran reached Quetta and then moved to Karachi.

From Karachi, they pedalled to Lahore, Azad Kashmir, Islamabad abd Swat before reaching Chitral. They have so far visited 29 countries, including Pakistan.

The German couple said they loved the beauty of Pakistan and the peaceful nature and hospitality of the local people. 

However, they seemed uneasy over police escort, saying whenever they went in the Kalash valleys the police followef them.

Ms Diana said she visited houses in different parts of Chitral and found women living in seclusion, adding she was highly impressed by hospitality if the local people.–Syed Nazir Hussain Shah
