PESHAWAR: A total of 33 new development projects of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been reflected in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for the year 2021-22 out of which 14 projects would be executed by the provincial government and the other by the federal government.

Meanwhile, the construction of a 495 megawatt hydro powerhouse in Chitral has been included in the PSDP 2022-23.

The KP government has started preparations to include its priority projects in PSDP 2022-23, and initially 66 important development projects have been identified for it. These included 13 projects in the communication and works sector, 12 in agriculture, eight in irrigation sector, nine in higher education, five in energy, and four in the sports and tourism sector.

This stated at a meeting held with Chief Minister Mahmood Khan in the chair to discuss the PSDP projects.

The meeting was told that 66 development projects had been identified for the inclusion in PSDP of the next fiscal year.

The important proposed projects include dualization of the road from Indus Highway to Bannu city, rehabilitation of Tall-Parachinar road, provision of water to Peshawar city from Mohmand Dam, construction of social welfare offices in all merged districts, construction of social welfare complexes in the five settled districts, establishing of an economic zone at Darraban, a women business park in Peshawar, sport complex at Regi Lalma town Peshawar, Khal grater water supply scheme Lower Dir, and construction of a 495 megawatt hydro power project in Chitral.

  1. Why are you so excited about this big power house that is going to be built in Chitral. We have a 108 megawat project in Golane that produces 18 megawats at the maximum for whatever reason. The two hundred or so households in the valley get electricity from NGOs set up power houses. A big power house means very little for Chitral. The Electricity would go on the National Grid and nothing for local consumption. Moreover where is this hydro power plant planned. Some of the sites being assessed would be environmental disaster for Chitral.
