PTI Reacts to Emergency & Governor’s Rule

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has rejected the federal government’s decision to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and demanded that the move be withdrawn.

In a statement, Barrister Gohar condemned the decision, describing it as a serious political mistake and an undemocratic step. He urged the federal government to set aside its ego and consider the ground realities, saying the decision could still be reversed within a few days.

He said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had a constitutional and legal right to their electoral mandate, adding that peace could not be achieved by disregarding that mandate or weakening provincial autonomy.

The PTI chairman maintained that stability could not be achieved by creating confrontation between the federal and provincial governments.

He stressed that there was no disagreement over the need to eliminate terrorism, but said the challenge required national unity and a coordinated strategy.

Barrister Gohar added that weakening the provinces would not strengthen the federation. He said the country’s problems could not be resolved through force, confrontation or extraordinary measures, but required political wisdom and meaningful negotiations.

He warned that the public would not accept measures that undermined their rights and called on the federal government to reconsider its decision.
