Repair of roads in Chitral to begin on Jan 10: Sartaj
CHITRAL: Ruling party (PTI) leaders from Chitral met the chief engineer of Communication and Works (C&W) Department in Peshawar and discussed the need to repair roads in Chitral.
Sartaj Ahmed Khan, president PTI Lower Chitral and MPA Wazirzada were also accompanied by government contractor Haji Muhammad Khan.
The PTI leaders felt the urgency to get the issue resolved without further delay perhaps after volunteers carried out the dilapidated Chitral-Garam Chashma, Booni and Yarkhun roads a few weeks ago.
Talking to ChitralToday correspondent on phone from Peshawar, Mr Sartaj said they informed the chief engineer that major roads in Chitral had not been repaired for years as the C&W department and National Highway Authority (NHA) passed on the buck to each other.
They said work on a number of bridges damaged during floods many years also remained pending, creating lots of hardship for the commuters and causing frequent accidents.
The chief engineer assured the PTI leaders that repair work on Chitral-Garam Chashma, Chitral-Bumburate and Chitral to Lowari roads would be started on Jan 10 while construction of the Osiak bridge would be launched by contractor Muhammad Khan in the first week of January.
He said the government felt the intensity of the public issue after the Ismaili volunteers launched the repair of the roads and the residents of Chitral appreciated their spirit of volunteerism.–Muhkam Uddin Ayuni
