PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has delegated powers to deputy commissioners to order arrests and detentions under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, 1960.

According to a notification issued by the Home and Tribal Affairs Department, the governor has delegated these powers under Section 3(1) of the MPO Ordinance, 1960.

The notification states that the relevant deputy commissioner will take prompt action upon receiving a case from the district police officer concerned.

The decision follows the declaration of an emergency in the province and removal of the PTI government on October 11 and aims to reduce administrative delays and ensure timely measures to maintain law and order.

Governor Kundi has directed deputy commissioners to exercise their powers strictly in accordance with the Constitution and the law, warning against any misuse of authority.

Ensuring public peace, safety and security remains the government’s top priority, the notification added.
