Outbreak of typhoid and diarrhoea feared in Oveer valley

CHITRAL: A resident of the remote Oveer valley on Saturday said a large number of people in his area were suffering from typhoid and diarrhoea and the diseases were spreading fast among the local population.

Islam Akberuddin Advocate said the only basic health unit (BHU) in the valley catering to over 12,000 people was without doctor and paramedical staff for long.

He said the BHU also lacked necessary medicines and was even short of paracetamol tablets. Mr Islam said due to unavailability of basic medical facilities the residents of the remote area were at the risk of contracting different diseases.

He appealed to the health department Chitral to immediately send a team of doctors along with medical supplies to treat the patients and check the outbreak of typhoid and diarrhoea in the area.
