ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chitral leader and former Member of the National Assembly Shahzada Iftikhar Uddin has said that the Atahk Irrigation Project has received approval at the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) level.
He said its PC-I now has been forwarded to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for final approval.
In a statement, Shahzada Iftikhar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who will chair the ECNEC meeting, had assured approval of the project in line with commitments made by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif in a special video message to the people of Chitral during the February 2024 general election campaign.
He said the irrigation channel was expected to bring approximately 16,000 acres of land in Mulkhow under irrigation, providing a boost to agriculture and livelihoods in the area.
Shahzada Iftikhar had also shared the development with the people of Mulkhow in a previous video message.
He added that Federal Minister for Planning and Development Chaudhry Ahsan Iqbal would provide further details about the project in a video message.
