PESHAWAR: At a meeting here on Wednesday, officials from different departments reviewed arrangements for the annual Shandur festival in Chitral scheduled to be held from July 7-9 this year.
It was decided that PIA would operate special flights from Islamabad to Chitral from July 5 to 12 to facilitate tourists, especially those from other countries.
Muhammad Tariq, Secretary Sports, Tourism, Archaeology, Museums, Culture and Youth Affairs chaired the meeting.
The meeting discussed the process to issue advertisements to attract tourists across the world to the event.
Additional Secretary Babar Khan, Colonel Saqib of Frontier Corps, Tourism Corporation KP (TCKP) Managing Director Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, General Manager Sajjad Hameed, Deputy Commissioner Chitral Irhsad Sodhar, District Police Officer Mansoor Aman, Deputy Secretary Sports Board Jamshed Khan, President ChitralPolo Association Sikandarul Mulk and others attended the meeting.
Secretary Tariq said the free style polo game had gained international fame and every year thousands of visitors and tourists came to witness the festival in Chitral.
Besides other arrangements, he said the department would also arrange transport service from Chitral to Shandur to facilitate the visitors.
“The local cultures including music and performing art of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan would be displayed besides setting up stalls and a tent village for providing boarding and lodging facilities for both foreign and domestic tourists,” he added.
The official said PIA would arrange special flights July 5 to 12 to Chitral. He said there are a number of other programmes to showcase work of local artisans and cultural nights during the three-day festival.
The secretary issued directives for establishing a tent village, tourism information centre, renovation of the polo ground, water and power supply, power generators, telephone, transport, publishing of brochures and advertisements for publicity of festival at national international level, arrangement for media coverage, security and provision of other facilities.
