Two persons recently died in separate motorcycle crashes and scores of youths injured in accidents as hundreds of bikes are being driven by underage and untrained youths in different villages. The people of Mastuj tehsil had appealed to the DPO Chitral to deploy traffic police personnel in the area on a permanent basis. The request was also published in Chitral Today after which a few policemen were posted to the area. The traffic policemen are now performing duties in main villages besides patrolling on the road up to the Yarkhun valley regularly. This brought a marked change as the errant bike drivers were issued tickets and warned not to play with the lives of the citizens. The police department has now regularized the services of the traffic cops in the area over which the local residents have expressed their gratitude to the DPO. They said the decision would also help in regulating traffic and saving people from being fleeced by public transporters. The locals however stressed the need that the police should maintain its image and strictly implement the traffic rules without any discrimination.]]>
