Reshun, June 5, 2026: Residents of Reshun in Upper Chitral staged a protest over rising electricity tariffs, demanding a reduction in rates, immediate construction of a one megawatt hydropower plant, and a write off of previous electricity bills.
During the protest, the main Chitral-Mastuj road was blocked, disrupting traffic in the area. Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Adnan Haider Malooki reached the site and held negotiations with the protesters.
Senior officials, including police representatives and political figures, were also present during the talks.
Protesters stated that for the past three years, concerns have persisted regarding the transfer of the Reshun power plant from PEDO to PESCO, increased electricity tariffs, and issues in the billing system. They said repeated promises had been made, but no permanent solution had been implemented.
During negotiations, a written assurance was provided by representatives linked to the provincial assembly that serious steps would be taken to address public concerns. Following this assurance, protesters announced the end of their sit in.
However, they warned that if no progress is made by June 18, they will resume protests and take to the streets again.
