Peshawar, April 19, 2026: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi on Sunday announced a Rs50 billion development package for Mardan while addressing a large public gathering organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The chief minister said the initiative is aimed at promoting balanced and inclusive development across the province, adding that the significant public turnout reflected sustained support for the party and its founding chairman, Imran Khan. He noted that the gathering, held during daytime, demonstrated the party’s organizational strength and public engagement capacity.
Outlining the party’s political roadmap, Afridi announced visits to Azad Jammu and Kashmir on April 25, coinciding with PTI’s foundation day, and to Lahore on May 1 as part of an ongoing political campaign. He reiterated his alignment with Imran Khan’s leadership and policy direction.
On governance, the chief minister said a future session of the provincial assembly would be held in an open public setting. He added that protest activities would continue until appropriate medical access is ensured for Imran Khan and his spouse, including access to personal physicians and family members.
Addressing economic challenges, Afridi pointed to slowing GDP growth, rising public debt, and increasing fuel prices, which he said have intensified inflationary pressures. He highlighted the impact on farmers, laborers, and low-income groups, noting a decline in purchasing power.
A resolution presented by Ali Asghar Khan was also unanimously adopted, calling for economic relief, release of political detainees, and restoration of the public mandate, alongside settlement of financial dues to the province.
