Chitral, April 2, 2026: A one-day refresher training for wildlife rangers was arranged in Chitral by the Snow Leopard Foundation (SLF) in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Wildlife Department.

The training focused on preventing wildlife poaching and enhancing the investigation of related crimes.
The session is designed to improve the professional skills of wildlife rangers, enabling them to prevent illegal hunting, dismantle poaching networks, and conduct effective investigations of wildlife crimes.

Participants received practical guidance on modern investigative techniques, scientific methods for collecting evidence, securing crime scenes, and following legal procedures—all critical for building strong cases against offenders.
Twelve rangers from the Chitral Wildlife Department attended the refresher training. This session continued the efforts of last year’s training, aiming to address practical challenges encountered in the field and further improve the performance of the staff.

Special attention during the training was given to accurate documentation of evidence, safe storage, maintaining the chain of custody, and proper legal procedures.

Rangers described the training as highly valuable, noting that it enhanced their skills and helped them tackle field challenges more effectively.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Chitral, Farooq Nabi, said such training plays a vital role in strengthening the capacity of field staff and improving institutional performance. He appreciated SLF’s support and expressed hope that the collaboration would continue in the future.

SLF Chitral Regional Program Manager, Jamiullah Sherazi, stated that the training aims to make wildlife protection efforts in the region more effective. He added that better-trained rangers would not only reduce poaching but also ensure the preservation of biodiversity.
