Chitral, Jan 2, 2026: The Lowari Tunnel road on the Dir side remained closed for several hours on Friday due to heavy snowfall, leaving travelers stranded and causing serious inconvenience to passengers.
According to reports, the accumulation of snow made the road unsafe for traffic. However, the situation was worsened by the absence and lack of interest on part of the NHA and the traffic personnel, which added to the difficulties faced by commuters.
Passengers heading to Chitral complained that no traffic management or timely information was provided, forcing many vehicles to remain stuck for hours in extremely cold conditions.
Travelers in the Chitral-Peshawar road have urged the authorities concerned to ensure the presence of machinery and staff to remove snow and keep the road open in the winter.
