ISLAMABAD, Jan 1, 2026: Telenor service users in Chitral may see improvements in network coverage and service quality as Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has officially taken over the management of Telenor Pakistan.
PTCL has completed the acquisition of 100 percent of the issued shares of Telenor Pakistan and Orion Towers, making them wholly owned subsidiaries of PTCL.
The development is being viewed as a positive step for customers in remote and underserved regions, including Chitral, where connectivity issues have been frequently reported.
According to PTCL, Telenor Pakistan will continue to operate as a separate legal entity during the interim period. Following the completion of required regulatory approvals, Telenor Pakistan and PTCL’s mobile subsidiary, Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Limited (Ufone 4G), are expected to be merged into a single integrated entity.
PTCL President and Chief Executive Officer Hatem Bamatraf said the takeover marks an important milestone for the telecom sector and reiterated the company’s commitment to providing seamless and high-quality services across the country.
Industry observers say PTCL’s existing infrastructure and experience in hard-to-reach areas could help address long-standing network challenges faced by Telenor users in northern regions.
