PHC Dismisses Latif’s Petition, Directs Surrender To ATC

Peshawar, October 1, 2025: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition of Abdul Latif, Member National Assembly from Chitral, against his disqualification.

The court upheld the earlier decision that declared him disqualified and directed him to surrender himself before the competent court of law.

Abdul Latif was disqualified by the Election Commission of Pakistan following his conviction linked to the events of May 9, 2023. The Election Commission had denotified his National Assembly seat after an Anti-Terrorism Court awarded him a prison sentence.

Earlier, the Islamabad High Court had acquitted him in a related case concerning the attack on Ramna police station, removing the terrorism charges, but his disqualification under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution remained effective.

With today’s ruling, Abdul Latif is legally required to appear before the relevant judicial forum in compliance with the orders of the Peshawar High Court.

The PHC had earlier restrained the ECP from holding a by-election in the National Assembly seat NA-1 Chitral.
