BOONI. Aug 25, 2025: On the directives of Deputy Speaker of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Suriya Bibi, the Communication and Works (C&W) Department in Upper Chitral repaired the Shichan Deh Bridge near Terich Torkhow and reopened it for traffic.
The bridge is jeepable and can bear a maximum load of 60 maunds (about 2.5 tons). Officials have instructed that heavy vehicles, particularly Mazda trucks, must not use it. They stressed that this restriction is necessary to keep the bridge safe and functional.
The installation of protective railings in the bridge is however pending due to a bereavement in the family of the craftsman responsible. The department announced that this work will be completed within a week.
Local residents expressed relief at the reopening. The bridge at the start of Terich provides a vital transport link for communities in the remote valley of Upper Chitral.
