PESHAWAR: Continuing his initiative to address regional security concerns, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Khan Gandapur convened the second major consultative Jirga on law and order at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar on Monday.
The gathering brought together elders and elected representatives from Bajaur and Mohmand districts for an open and inclusive dialogue. Also in attendance were Adviser to the Chief Minister on Information Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, Senator Noorul Haq Qadri and senior police officials from the concerned areas.
The Jirga engaged in extensive deliberations on the prevailing security situation in the tribal belt. Participants unanimously reaffirmed their commitment to peace, declaring, “We seek peace and urge the government to ensure it. We stand united against terrorism and are fully prepared to cooperate in efforts to restore stability.”
Strongly opposing military operations and forced displacements, the Jirga rejected such approaches as counterproductive and unsustainable. Instead, participants advocated for the establishment of a broad-based and empowered peace Jirga comprising federal and provincial representatives, tribal elders, and all relevant stakeholders. This body, they proposed, should lead a structured and sincere dialogue with the Afghan government and local actors to eliminate the roots of terrorism through political engagement and regional consensus.
Participants praised the initiative of local consultative Jirgas as a progressive step towards inclusive policymaking. They urged the government to institutionalize these forums and replicate them across other districts to ensure that their positive outcomes are translated into sustainable peace and development across the province.
