CHITRAL: In a surprising twist worthy of a drama serial, a young FC soldier on leave married not one, but two brides at a time in Sor Rech village of Upper Chitral.
Sirtaj Ahmed of Bara Rifles, Frontier Corps North, returned to his village Sor Rech while on leave from May 19 to June 12. But what began as a quiet homecoming quickly turned into local headline material.
According to sources, Sirtaj brought home a girl belonging to the Sunni community and told family that she wants to marry her. However, in the meantime, another girl, from the Ismaili community, was found waiting inside his house.
Like the other girl, she claimed that Sirtaj had been in contact with her on phone and promised to marry her.
Local elders swiftly called a cleric, Molana Faizur Rehman. After confirming that both girls were fully consenting (and quite determined not to go anywhere), the Molana officiated both marriages. The Mehr of nine lakh rupees was fixed for each girl.
Sirtaj, just two years into his service, now faces what might be the biggest mission of his life: managing two households and a mountain of expectations.
