CHITRAL: Another young man reportedly committed suicide in Upper Chitral on Wednesday. This is the third such incident within less than a week in the district.
The latest victim was identified as Akhlaq Ahmad, resident of Kosht. A day earlier, a young nurse belonging to Chuinj village ended her life at a hospital in Peshawar.
In another incident, a young man identified as Nouman jumped into the river in Booni and died. His dead body was later recovered from the river at Charun.
A teenage boy lost his life after a 12-bore shotgun accidentally went off in Upper Chitral’s Miragram-1 village on September 19.
He was identified as Yasir Ali, son of Yadgar Ali.
Noor, son of Mir Azam of Khot, also lost his life in suspected suicide. Residents said he sustained critical injuries after his firearm accidentally discharged.
These incidents have renewed calls for greater attention to the factors contributing to suicide in Chitral and for stronger community and institutional support for vulnerable individuals.
