Chitral, July 8, 2026: Rescue 1122 evacuated more than 200 stranded passengers and rescued four vehicles after flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains blocked roads across parts of Lower Chitral overnight.
According to Rescue 1122, emergency teams launched search and rescue operations in Drosh, Jinjiret and Sweer after receiving reports.
Torrential rainfall caused flash floods and landslides in Kalkatak, Kaldam Gol, Sweer and Ashiret, cutting off the Drosh–Ashiret road and leaving several vehicles stranded.
Rescuers from the Shishkoh and Brignisar watch points were the first to reach the affected areas, safely evacuating stranded passengers, providing first aid and recovering four vehicles trapped in floodwaters.
Disaster response vehicles were also used to clear debris and reopen the Drosh–Chitral road.
The operation was carried out jointly by Rescue 1122, the district administration and the National Highway Authority (NHA).
District Emergency Officer Sajjad Ali Yousafzai said the Rescue 1122 control room remains on high alert around the clock and urged residents to dial 1122 in case of any emergency.
