RAWALPINDI: Police have made a major breakthrough in the murder case of social media personality Shamsu Bibi, alias Ayesha Gulmina, who was killed in Taxila, revealing that her father, brother and other relatives were allegedly involved in the crime.

SSP Operations Malik Tariq Mehboob said five suspects have been arrested, including the victim’s father Fazal, brother Bashir, cousin Ehsan, her father’s uncle Rozi Khan and cousin’s son Yasin. According to police, one of the suspects has confessed to the crime, while both alleged shooters have also been arrested.
Police said the murder was allegedly planned by family members over objections to the victim’s social media activities and her participation in a wedding ceremony. Investigators also found that an earlier attempt had allegedly been made to attack her in Haripur.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspects allegedly attempted to mislead investigators and shift blame for the killing onto others. More than 100 CCTV cameras were examined, while human intelligence and other investigative resources were used to trace the suspects.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the killing was carried out in the name of honour, although further investigation could reveal additional details.
Authorities said the suspects would be presented with the available evidence and that a challan would be submitted before the court to seek punishment under the law.
