Chitral, June 15, 2026: Jamaat-e-Islami Lower Chitral organized a large public jirga at Ataliq Bridge, attended by representatives of political parties, lawyers, traders, social organizations, and a large number of local residents. The jirga was chaired by Jamaat-e-Islami Lower Chitral chief Wajihuddin.
Speakers at the gathering expressed serious concerns over alleged corruption, misuse of development funds and administrative irregularities in ongoing development projects across Chitral.
Prominent speakers included Wajihuddin, Maulana Jamshed, Qazi Naseem of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Bar Association President Momin Rehman Advocate, Umair-ul-Khaleel, Qazi Waqar of Pakistan Peoples Party, Qari Nizamuddin, and Traders Union President Noor Ahmad.
The speakers stated that the people of Chitral would no longer tolerate corruption and poor planning in development projects. They demanded transparent investigations into alleged irregularities and strict accountability for those responsible.
At the end of the jirga, a unanimous resolution was passed calling for the public release of the fact-finding committee report established by the deputy commissioner. It also demanded the recovery of embezzled public funds and the immediate completion of unfinished development projects. The resolution further called for strict legal action against contractors involved in substandard work as well as officials allegedly supporting them, and urged authorities to stop advance payments to contractors before project completion.
Jamaat-e-Islami and participating organizations announced the launch of a protest movement starting June 26, with demonstrations planned across village councils in Chitral. They warned that the protests would escalate into sit-ins if their demands were not met. Participants reaffirmed their support for the campaign slogan, “End Corruption, Save Chitral.”
