SWAT: Investigators probing the suicide attack near Kabal Police Station in Swat have traced the suspected bomber’s origins to Dir, as the investigation into the deadly blast continues.
According to the investigation team, the suspect had allegedly been involved in previous terrorist incidents. Authorities have obtained his record and are also examining whether he had previously crossed the border. Investigators said the attacker reached the police station on foot before carrying out the attack.
The blast killed 17 people, including seven police officers and 10 civilians, while 12 others remain under treatment at Saidu Sharif Hospital. The injured include eight police personnel and four civilians.
Rescue 1122 teams have so far treated more than 15 injured people and shifted them to different hospitals. The emergency response involved 13 ambulances and more than 45 rescue personnel.
A terrorism case has been registered at a Counter-Terrorism Department police station on the complaint of the Kabal SHO.
According to the FIR, a protest by the Pasoon organisation was underway at Kabal Chowk when the explosion struck the police station’s main gate at around 6:04pm. The attack left a large number of police officers and civilians dead or injured.
The FIR points to the possible involvement of TTP commander Muzaffar and other militants. However, investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack and the suspect’s movements.
