CHITRAL: Torrential rains have triggered flash floods and landslides across several parts of Chitral, damaging homes, roads and crops and leaving people stranded, Rescue 1122 said.
Rescue teams are working in multiple affected areas, carrying out emergency operations and assessing the extent of the damage.
Several areas of Upper Chitral also witnessed flash flooding as a result of which water and power supply lines along with link roads were damaged.
In Khairchom, Karimabad of Garam Chashma, a Jamat Khana was damaged, but no casualties were reported. A house and a livestock shed were also affected in Siwaht with no loss of life reported there either.
A landslide at Shasha Lower Chitral blocked the main road connecting Chitral, Garam Chashma and Karimabad, cutting off traffic along the route.
In Broz Gumbaz, rescue personnel safely pulled a man identified as Mukhtiar out of floodwater and took him home. Several vehicles were also caught in floodwaters at Baroz Gumbaz Gol, though officials have yet to confirm the number of vehicles affected or whether there were any casualties.
Flooding in Shishikoh, Drosh, damaged standing crops, while no deaths or injuries were reported.
At Gahirat Gol, floodwaters temporarily blocked the Chitral River, forming a natural dam. Rescue teams responded and safely evacuated 15 people from the area.
Meanwhile, three people became stranded in the middle of the Chitral River at Shanagar, Drosh. One has been rescued, while efforts to reach the other two were continuing. Strong currents and difficult terrain are making the operation challenging.
Rescue 1122 has also deployed additional ambulances and rescuers from Upper Dir to support emergency operations in Lower Chitral.
Officials cautioned that the figures remain preliminary. Poor internet and mobile connectivity in some areas is making it difficult to verify the full extent of the damage and the number of affected or missing people and vehicles.
