Beggars from Punjab Reach Chitral, Turned Back by Police

Chitral, May 9, 2026: Lower Chitral police have turned back a group of professional beggars who arrived from Lodhran, Punjab, in an operation aimed at maintaining law and order in the district.

Section 144 imposed to curb begging, illegal fundraising

According to police officials, the individuals were found in Drosh Bazaar and were taken into custody for verification. After completing the necessary checks at Drosh Police Station, authorities confirmed their identities and arranged for their return to their native areas.

Begging, fund collections banned in Lower Chitral

The operation was carried out on the instructions of District Police Officer (DPO) Lower Chitral, Rifatullah Khan, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure peace in the region amid prevailing security concerns.

Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and report the presence of any unfamiliar individuals in their areas. Officials emphasized that public cooperation is essential for maintaining a safe and secure environment.

4,300 beggars put on ECL

Chitral is largely free of beggars; however, organized groups are known to send professional beggars to the valley, particularly during the summer season. These individuals are often seen roaming in markets, public places, and even reaching remote villages.
