16 Women Trekkers Set Off For Terichmir Base Camp

CHITRAL, Aug 8, 2025: A group of 16 women trekkers from Chitral, Kalash Valley, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, Islamabad, and other cities has set off for Terichmir base camp.

The team includes three women from Chitral, including one from the Kalash community. Four women represent Gilgit-Baltistan. Thirty-five local porters and three local guides are also part of the group. This shows strong local involvement.

Earlier, two groups of male trekkers completed successful trips to Terichmir base camp. They mapped routes, tested safety measures, and handled logistics. Their work helped make future treks safer and smoother.

These trekking activities are part of the celebrations to mark the first successful ascent to the Terichmir peak 75 years ago. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) is organising the events

In addition, nine young local youth successfully scaled Terichmir peak, marking a major achievement in the region’s adventure tourism.

The success of these male teams encouraged officials and tour operators to include more women. Their expeditions drew attention to Chitral’s mountains. This sparked interest from trekkers across the country and abroad.

Bibi Fauzia, board member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority, said Chief Minister Gandapur is focused on boosting adventure tourism. She added that over seven trekking groups have contacted local tour operators. The interest in Chitral’s peaks is growing.

This project aims to attract more trekkers and mountaineers. It also empowers women in adventure sports. At the same time, it supports sustainable economic growth in the region.
