Dry spell broken; Chitral receives rain, snowfall
Chitral received rain and snowfall that broke the long dry spell but added chill to the cold wave across the valley.
The rain and snowfall started on Wednesday evening and continued on Thursday. According to the district administration, over five inch of snow had fallen on the Chitral side of the Lowari tunnel. However, the main road to Chitral and all roads in the lower and upper Chitral were open.
A passenger travelling to Chitral from Yarkhun told ChitralToday on phone that the road to Booni was sleepery ay many points especially at Dumadumi but there was no blockade.
The district administration of Lower Chitral said that the NHA machinery was at a standby to remove snow on the road from Lowari tunnel to Chitral to keep traffic open. However, motorists should take special precautions and use snow chain while driving on the road.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Islamabad said light rain and snowfall was expected in mountainous parts of KP, including Chitral, on Thursday and Friday. A frontal weather system is present over northern part of the country and is likely to prevail till January 6, it added.
