Govt urged to retrieve Islamia College University’s property

PESHAWAR: The Board of Management Committee of Islamic College University Peshawar at a meeting called upon the government to help retrieve the institute’s property from illegal occupation.

Provincial Minister for Higher Education Mina Khan Afridi chaired the meeting, which was attended by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Ali Muhammad Khan Yousafzai, Senior Alumni President M. Zaman Khan Muhammad Zai, General Secretary Fayaz Khan, President of TSA Khwaja Wahid, Registrar Dawood Khan and other stakeholders.

Registrar Dawood Khan briefed the minister on the college’s assets, comprising commercial and non-commercial properties, agricultural land, and other resources.

Senior Alumni President M. Zaman Khan and General Secretary Fayaz Khan expressed their concern about occupation of the college property and the minimal rent being paid by tenants, resulting in substantial financial losses for the university.

They requested the minister to address this issue and bring it to the attention of the chief minister, as the college was facing financial issues.

They emphasized that if the college’s property was retrieved, it will achieve financial independence and will not rely on government grants any longer.

The minister assured the board members that he would take up the matter with the chief minister to explore ways to optimize the college’s resources.

The members acknowledged and appreciated the minister’s personal interest and efforts towards the college’s welfare and progress.

Assistant Commissioner Sameera Saba from the district administration also attended the meeting. The board of management members also discussed the property details with her.
