Punjab approves speedy trial courts
LAHORE: Special speedy trial courts are being set up in Punjab for sexual and child assault cases.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
The chief minister said that though the speeding courts pulpetrators will be brought to justice without the cases lingering on.
The cabinet also decided to make changes to the defamation law to set a deadline for disposing of such cases. Under the proposals, degrees would be announced in 90 days and the trial of the defamation cases would not last more than 180 days.
